This article does a good job of distinguishing between making converts and making disciples.
When God begins to do the same process with unrelated people around the world, we should pay attention. In the last few years, we have seen a great increase in a “CPM Hub training system approach”. The following describes the process for those desiring to catalyze movements cross-culturally among the unreached. We realize God calls some to catalyze movements in their own culture and we are glad to be part of God’s global body with these servants.
The CPM Hub Training process consists of four phases:
- Home Hub (phase 1) – being shaped in head (knowledge), heart (character) and hands (skills) while living in one’s home culture. They are living out CPM practices among both the majority and minority/ethne populations of their context. Since this is a CPM hub there is an emphasis on being able to make disciples before moving on to the next stage. This stage seems typically to be 1-3 years.
- Field Hub (phase 2) – This involves being apprenticed to CPM practitioners in a cross-cultural setting (and usually learning language) while again focusing on head, heart, and hands. The new team sees CPM principles in action in an affinity bloc similar to the unreached group on their hearts. This would again be typically 1-3 years.
- UPG Hub (phase 3) – Launching into a UPG in that same affinity bloc seeking to catalyze a CPM. The Field Hub team would provide or arrange for CPM coaching for this stage. This UPG team will be in it for the long term.
- Multiplying CPMs: If/when a CPM emerges in that UPG, rather than exit, they help that movement expand to start other movements in nearby UPGs (and sometimes further). Coaching and help is available from other CPM leaders who have multiplied movements.
